Fort Zumwalt School District is a recognized leader in student security. It is a priority for our administrators and for the Board of Education to provide a welcoming, safe environment for our students. Creating that environment requires involvement at many levels.

First and foremost are the efforts of our parents and staff. Our staff works hard to know who is in our buildings with our students. The cooperation of parents and other visitors as they sign in and out at the office is greatly appreciated.

All employees and volunteers undergo background checks. Any adult signing a student out of one of our buildings must present an ID that shows they are a parent, legal guardian or designee as listed in our database.

In addition:
JL Mudd is equipped with security cameras at all entrances and throughout our building. This helps our office staff monitor the building and grounds at any time throughout the day. Buildings are equipped with automatic door locks and buzzer entry systems. Elementary and middle schools are locked during school hours. At our elementary schools, a glass-strengthening film has been added to fortify entryways.

Secondary buildings have a crisis counselor on staff.

Drug and alcohol prevention as well as violence prevention programming is available in all buildings.

The district Safeline connects students, parents and the community to the district. 

Throughout the school year, we will participate in whole school drills. Students will practice fire, tornado, intruder, and earthquake drills. It is of great benefit to have a plan that our young students are familiar with in situations such as these.
